SUMMARY

The Motor Associate is responsible for various duties in motor assembly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Motor Assembler
    :
    Assemble all types of motors by reading and interpreting specification sheets, assembly drawings, outline drawings, and hook-up drawings. Perform small precision assembly and assembly of large units as required. Fabricate or form parts, coils, or structures according to specifications, using drills, calipers, cutters, or saws. Mark serial identification and maintain traceability records. Use bill of material to pull correct parts for the assembly process.
  • Motor Tester
    :
    Perform mechanical and electrical tests as per IM, Test Procedure, and Motor Test Procedure. Follow all safety regulations in testing procedures. Operate test equipment including Goldline auto tester, MATS test station, and back drive station. Complete test data sheets and ensure motors meet test requirements.
  • Spray Painter
    :
    Clean parts to be painted, such as motor assemblies, generators, housings, end bells, and related parts, ensuring they are free of dirt, grease, oil, and film. Mask areas to be unpainted using appropriate methods. Mix epoxy, lacquer, enamel with proper thinners and reducers. Use correct spray techniques to ensure proper coverage with minimal overspray. Maintain spray booth filters and current paint inventory.
  • Winder
    :
    Gather correct wire per winding data sheet. Maintain wire, lamination, and insulator inventory using Kanban. Insulate lamination stacks, load parts, and run programs on winding machines. Perform resistance and other tests. Adjust machine parameters as needed. Perform other armature manufacturing processes such as crimping, soldering, varnishing, pressing.
  • Machine Winder
    :
    Set up winding machines for stator winding. Perform resistance tests and other checks. For brushless units, wind machine or hand wind as required. Perform additional operations such as crimping, sensor setting, varnishing, polishing, and inspection. Maintain wire and lamination inventory.
  • Encapsulation
    :
    Perform skewing, encapsulation, varnishing, sub-assembly, patching, press winding, pre-testing, and cleaning according to procedures and router instructions.
  • Rotor Assembler
    :
    Assemble rotors by reading blueprints and checking dimensions. Fabricate parts, coils, or structures. Maintain inventory control. Includes turning and balancing.
  • Core Processing
    :
    Bonding, stacking laminations, sandblasting, deburring cores, coating, spray painting. Use drawings, shop travelers, gauges, and fixtures. Must have hazardous waste packing training and OSHA/EPA/DOT compliance.
  • Magnet Processing
    :
    Conduct operations for yoke-ring assemblies, including cleaning, bonding, balancing, and painting, following prescribed procedures. Use various tools and equipment. Must be trained in hazardous waste packing.
  • Lams and Commutator Bar Processing
    :
    Complete lamination, end insulators, and commutator bar operations, including insulation, wave soldering, deburring, and inspection.
  • Undercut/Debur
    :
    Prepare parts and sub-assemblies, perform hand and machine deburring, and undercut commutator slots.
  • Commutation Devices
    :
    Assemble brush spring segments, use micrometers, spot weld, solder, inspect, and perform related operations. Use various tools including resistance soldering and microscopes.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    Working Relationships: Coordinate with other associates and supervisors. Some roles involve handing off work to the next process in assembly.

    Education and Experience Requirements

    • Knowledge of customer service principles, quality standards, and evaluation methods.
    • Knowledge of administrative procedures, word processing, and record management.
    • Good communication skills and basic arithmetic knowledge.
    • Judgment to plan, perform, and decide operation sequences within standard methods.
    • Self-motivated and capable of independent task completion.
    • Attention to detail and thoroughness in work.

    Physical Demand and Work Environment:

    The physical demands include frequent use of hands, reaching, talking, standing, walking, sitting, occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Must occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and focus adjustment. Compliance with federal export control laws applies.
