Position Description: Activity Bus Driver

School Bus Drivers must possess or have the ability to acquire an appropriate commercial driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia; must pass a physical examination as prescribed by the Virginia Department of Education; and possess and maintain a satisfactory driving record from the Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles that meets state requirements and indicates positive driving points.

REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation

Essential Job Functions:

Driving school bus; picking up and delivering students to/from activities.

Performs pre-trip inspection of school bus; reports operating and equipment deficiencies.

Washes bus; cleans bus inside and out.

Fuels bus as required.

Obeys all traffic laws and observes mandatory safety regulations for school bus operations.

Transports only authorized students, school personnel, and/or authorized chaperons on special trips.

Reports all accidents and completes required reports.

Conducts periodic emergency bus evacuation drills.

Transports students to special events and field trips.

Records mileage; maintains various records and prepares a variety of reports on activities.

Ensures passenger safety; maintains discipline on bus; makes reports as necessary.

Makes bus available for scheduled maintenance and/or repairs.

Performs related tasks as required.

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
