Pay Range: $96,350 - $135,000 per year (New Jersey)

Job Overview

The Director manages and supervises hospital measures of regulatory compliance, publicly reported metrics, quality and process improvement, and patient safety. The role ensures completion of required regulatory quality reporting, provides leadership with data‑driven insights for metric improvement, coordinates medical staff peer review, nursing quality programs, and collaborates with management teams to support improvement strategies. The Director also ensures that PIC reports are meaningful, include appropriate analysis, and address opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications
  • Required:
    • Bachelor's Degree
    • 3 years experience in an acute care setting
    • Demonstrates team building and collaborative practice behaviors
    • Demonstrates understanding of performance improvement and quality outcomes management
  • Preferred:
    • Master's degree
    • Certification as Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) and Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS)
    • Quality Improvement experience
Essential Functions
  • Leads Performance Improvement
    • Utilizes principles of CQI in all work situations
    • Provides education to clinical and ancillary staff to help achieve department and hospital goals
    • Seeks feedback and recommendations from others to improve the quality, processes, and services
    • Participates in multidisciplinary task forces to plan, implement, and evaluate process changes designed to improve compliance with publicly reported metrics
  • Coordinates Patient Safety Activities
    • Oversees Quality coordinators in developing agendas and documents for medical staff peer review committees
    • Prepares agendas and documents for assigned medical staff peer review committees
    • Participates in and oversees fact‑finding, high‑risk occurrence, or sentinel event meetings
    • Provides oversight of daily reviews of patient safety events and coordination of follow‑up
    • Prepares or oversees root cause analysis documents for submission to regulatory agencies
    • Implementation of organizational development initiatives as part of the High Reliability journey
  • Provides Hospital Leadership
    • Participates in organizational meetings; functions as a key Quality member and communicates as appropriate within the Quality department
    • Plans, implements, and evaluates performance improvement activities for a variety of clinical, ancillary, and administrative departments
    • Participates in or leads performance improvement teams as requested
    • Participates in employee orientation program
    • Develops strong relationships with managers, department heads, and administration
    • Provides input in policies and procedures to support operational outcomes and organizational goals
    • Represents the hospital in RWJBH Quality system meetings
  • Manages Publicly Reported Data
    • Analyzes CMS National Quality Measure reports to identify trends and issues
    • Reviews Quality Measure reports and communicates information to stakeholders
  • Leads Regulatory Compliance Efforts
    • Identifies changes in regulatory requirements; communicates changes to appropriate customers in a timely manner
    • Prepares for regulatory surveys in collaboration with Quality staff and other departments
    • Leads hospital‑wide regulatory surveys including Joint Commission and NJ Department of Health and participates in other surveys as needed
