Senior Director, Automation - Hybrid – Merck
Responsible for the formulation and execution of automation strategy in Global Clinical Trial Operations and supporting activities. Collaborate with GCTO, IT, and other teams to drive strategy from ideation to value realization.
The Senior Director Will- Drive alignment and strategic planning.
- Inspire teams toward shared goals, developing ambitious objectives aligned with organizational priorities.
- Forecast and plan operations, ensuring functional capacity meets demand and internal stakeholder needs.
- Lead talent development and performance management, including work assignment, priorities, coaching, and recognition.
- Build career paths and growth opportunities through development plans and internal mobility.
- Advises cross‑functional stakeholders on data management and functional operations.
- Ensure compliance with SOPs, global regulatory, and internal standards.
- Champion continuous improvement, leading initiatives that enhance processes, tools, and team agility.
- Stay ahead of innovation, tracking advancements in AI, automation, and clinical trial operations.
- Influence technology and workflow decisions, contributing to system choices and efficient work processes.
- Support broader organizational needs, taking on additional projects as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, technology, or business operations.
- 12+ years in Clinical Trial Operations, Data Management, or related biopharmaceutical fields.
- 5+ years of personnel management experience.
- Successful implementation of data and technology solutions (e.g., data modeling, NLP, AWS, Azure).
Skills and Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of clinical trial operations.
- Working knowledge of ICH and GCP guidelines.
- Excellent communication skills for technical and business audiences.
- Experience in strategy formulation, organizational alignment, and value‑realized implementation.
- Experience defining process and organizational metrics (KRI, KQI, OKRs).
- Agile mindset and practical experience with Agile methodologies.

Work ArrangementHybrid model: three on‑site days per week (Monday‑Thursday) and Friday remote, unless business needs require presence.
Location and TravelFlexible work arrangements (Hybrid). Domestic relocation and 10% travel required.
