Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing is required.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years general practice and 3 or more years’ experience in Med Surg, Cardiac, etc. (Adult Population).
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Successful completion of all Orientation Programs.
Preferred
  • MSN degree (Clinical, Administration, Education).
  • Minimum of 2 years previous teaching experience in a service setting.
Certifications and Licenses Required
  • Current NJ RN Licensure required.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS/ACLS required.

Essential Functions

The Nurse Educator NPDP is responsible for designing, teaching, evaluating, and executing educational programs for all levels of professional, technical, and ancillary staff in a variety of clinical areas and hospital departments consistent with the hospital’s mission, vision, philosophy, and core values. Programs include the orientation of new employees, in‑service education relevant to the hospital environment, and continuing education offerings which are expected to maintain and improve competency and work performance.

The NPDP will assist the facility with compliance of regulatory standards, quality improvement, and programs focusing on customer service. Acts as a clinical resource, develops and oversees a monthly education calendar, reviews policies and procedures, regulatory requirements and nursing literature for evidence‑based clinical guidelines and standards of care to educate staff. Performance includes planning orientation for the registered nurse, nursing assistant, and unit assistant.

The NPDP participates in performance improvement activities, oversees and develops mentorship, preceptor, and residency programs, assesses data relevant to the learner’s progress, and interprets the appropriate information to develop group and individual learning plans. The NPDP is a clinical expert with the ability to foster the clinical development of staff that she or he guides. This individual will assess the educational needs of staff on an ongoing basis and serve as a resource/coach for the nursing staff, educators, APNs, management, and other healthcare providers.

The NPDP collaborates closely with the CNO, Director of Nursing and nursing management to ensure any quality issues or performance issues are resolved. The NPDP is available for all shifts for education, mentoring, and development and demonstrates job flexibility.
