Job Overview

The
Cath Lab RN is responsible for the general nursing activities in the Invasive Cardiovascular Lab (ICVL), providing quality patient care. The ICVL RN’s main function is to provide direct patient care effectively and efficiently to cardiovascular patients with varied and complex needs. The ICVL RN assumes general nursing activities with progressive responsibility, including but not limited to participating in or planning and presentation of departmental initiatives.

Qualifications

and Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing program, Current New Jersey RN License
  • 2+ years’ experience in ICU/Critical Care preferred
  • 2+ years direct Cath Lab Procedural Nursing Experience, preferred
  • EKG, BLS via American Heart Association, and ACLS Certification
  • Must live within 30 minutes of the hospital to meet the required response time for call shifts.
Position Responsibilities
  • Delivers direct patient care according to established standards.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assess patients pre‑intra‑post procedure, and communicate findings to health team members.
  • Communicates assessment data in an orderly fashion by verbalizing pertinent information to health team members.
  • Accurately documents all records according to established standards.
  • Demonstrates understanding of pertinent diagnostic test results and initiates appropriate actions as needed.
  • Identifies and reports abnormal lab values.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the operation of cardiovascular equipment.
  • Clinically proficient in cardiovascular procedures, demonstrating a knowledge of the developmental needs of the patient population served.
  • Assists the Cardiovascular Team in holding, procedure in monitoring, scrub, circulating, recovery nurse role.
  • Maintains records requiring complete documentation to include interventional lab records, procedure charges, performance metrics and measures, QA reports, and incident reports where applicable.
  • The employee is accountable for patient safety, as applicable to their job, for performance improvement.
Scheduling Requirements
  • Day Shift, 7AM-7:30PM, 12 hr. Shift with Call Shifts
  • Part‑Time (24 hours per week)
  • On Call Required
Essential Functions
  • The Registered Nurse provides nursing care in the health care system within the scope of practice defined by the Nurse Practice Act and regulatory standards and assures awareness of ethical standards of practice as defined by the ANA code of ethics.
  • The Registered Nurse assures safety in practice and is inclusive of the principles of evidence‑based practice by maintaining a realization of his/her own individual level of knowledge and experience and assumes responsibility for advancing knowledge of self and others in the patient care team by communication with and utilizing the resources and programs available.
  • The Registered Nurse is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors.
  • The Registered Nurse is responsible for knowledge of the patient population served.
  • The Registered Nurse is responsible for supervising and directing the delegation of tasks to appropriate team members and collaborates with other patient care providers.
  • The Registered Nurse is responsible for consistently setting and evaluating priorities through appropriate interventions with measurable outcomes toward improvement.
  • The Registered Nurse is an individual practitioner and an interdisciplinary team manager, who utilizes the nursing process to integrate all aspects of the provision of care and individualizes the plan of care to address a specific patient’s needs.
