Job Purpose:
To ensure effective sterilization, disinfection, and supply of sterile instruments, linen, and equipment to all clinical departments, maintaining highest standards of infection control and patient safety as per NABH, NABL, and hospital protocols.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sterilization & Disinfection
Operate and maintain autoclaves, ETO sterilizers, plasma sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaners, and other CSSD equipment.
Perform high-level disinfection and sterilization of surgical instruments, endoscopes, linen, dressings, and other medical devices.
Monitor and document sterilization cycles (temperature, pressure, time, Bowie-Dick test, chemical indicators, biological indicators).
2. Instrument & Equipment Management
Receive, inspect, clean, assemble, pack, label, and dispatch sterile sets and packs to OT, wards, ICU, emergency, and other departments.
Perform functional testing of instruments before sterilization.
Maintain inventory of CSSD consumables (sterilization pouches, indicators, wraps, tapes, etc.) and raise requisitions on time.
3. Infection Control & Quality Assurance
Strictly adhere to infection control protocols, PPE usage, and biomedical waste segregation in CSSD.
Conduct routine quality checks and documentation (sterilization logs, load release records, spore testing reports).
Participate in NABH internal audits, mock drills, and corrective actions for non-conformities.
4. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of all sterilization cycles, instrument sets issued/received, and daily/weekly/monthly reports.
Report any equipment malfunction, load failure, or process deviation to CSSD In-charge immediately.
5. Housekeeping & Safety
Ensure cleanliness, hygiene, and proper zoning (dirty, clean, sterile areas) in CSSD.
Follow occupational safety guidelines (handling of chemicals, steam, ETO gas).
Qualifications & Experience
Essential Qualification :
Diploma in Operation Theatre Technology (DOTT) / Diploma in CSSD Technology /
B.Sc. (Nursing) /
B.Sc. (Microbiology) /
B.Sc. (MLT) or equivalent
Preferred Qualification :
Certificate/Diploma in Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) from recognized institute
Experience : 2–3 years in CSSD / OT sterilization department
Key Skills & Attributes
Good knowledge of sterilization techniques, infection control, and biomedical waste management
Ability to operate autoclaves, ETO, ultrasonic cleaners, and other CSSD equipment
Attention to detail, accuracy in documentation, and adherence to SOPs
Basic computer knowledge (MS Office, ERP/HMIS entry)
Team player with good communication and time-management skills
Physically fit to handle heavy instrument trays and stand for long hours
