Diesel Mechanic Technician

Position Title

Permanent Full Time Experienced Mid-Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Rainbow City, Alabama.

• Hourly Pay: $23.85 per hour
• Certification Bonus: $100 per new ASE certification, up to $700
• Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter

  Tuesday through Saturday
• Hours:
  
  First Shift – Tuesday to Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm;
  Saturday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
• Vocational or Technical Certification; post‑secondary degree or technical certifications (preferred)
• Basic tools required
• Demonstrated aptitude and experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventive maintenance (oil changes, brakes, tires)
• Two or more years of classroom training and work experience (preferred)
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred)
• Must be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months of hire
• Pass Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and background/MVC check (including drug/alcohol verification of previous employers for last 3 years)

• Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties
• Standard vehicle maintenance
• Component inspections and repairs
• Preventive maintenance
• Diagnose mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computer when applicable
• Identify root cause of basic failures and perform repairs
• Replace defective components as instructed
• Facility maintenance duties
• Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaint when assigned a task
• Utilize shop management system and electronic documentation
• Work in accordance with all federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines (safety, DOT, MOT)
• Perform other support duties as required to support operations, including Service Island support
