Controller, Accounting, Accounting Manager

Location: Raleigh, NC (On Site with some flex)

Compensation: 150 to 190k base + bonus

Synergy Search has been engaged by a founder led real estate investment and operating company to find its next Corporate Controller. This firm has spent more than a decade building a portfolio of well over 100 properties across multiple states, and it does things differently. Technology and data sit at the center of how it acquires, operates, and scales its assets.

The company is moving from high growth into its next chapter. A newly built executive team is in place, capital partnerships are fueling acquisitions, and the accounting function is getting a fresh look. This is a chance to step in, own the controllership, and build the infrastructure that supports the next stage of growth.

• Lead corporate and property level accounting across a large, multi entity portfolio
• Own the monthly close, including review of property performance and consolidation of entities up to the investment vehicle level
• Manage and develop a team that includes a property accounting manager, AP, project accounting, and offshore accounting support
• Oversee AP, including coding standards, approvals, and internal controls
• Review and approve cash disbursements, and partner with treasury on cash forecasting
• Coordinate the annual audit and support external financial reporting
• Own sales tax, property tax, and 1099 compliance, plus the company insurance program
• Serve as system owner for the ERP and reporting tools, and help shape future system consolidation
• Partner with the AI and technology teams to automate and streamline accounting workflows
• Build scalable processes to onboard new acquisitions quickly and cleanly

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• CPA strongly preferred. Essentially a must have.
• Started your career in public accounting (audit preferred)
• Hands on multi entity accounting and consolidation experience
• Real estate, property, or construction accounting experience strongly preferred
• Proven people leader with a player coach style: you lead the team and still roll up your sleeves
• A track record of improving processes, adopting new technology, and leading change
• Current Controller, or a high performing Assistant Controller / Accounting Manager ready to step up
• Able to work on site in Raleigh five days a week
• High integrity, low ego, and energized by growth
