The Project Engineer 2 will complete and support routine construction and field execution responsibilities for construction projects utilizing construction fundamentals and company best practice standards, processes, resources and tools. This position will be responsible for participating in many facets of the construction process, such as general construction management, punch lists and executing self‑perform work, in order to understand the building process and how JE Dunn executes projects.
All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.
- Make decisions on assigned area and provide recommendations to supervisor, referring exceptions to supervisor as needed.
- Participate in all aspects of safety, quality plans and culture, demonstrating commitment to an injury‑free environment.
- Assist with project QA/QC planning to ensure quality for assigned tasks.
- Work on site with the project team to support tasks such as monitoring crew size, self‑perform hours, materials, quantity and equipment.
- Participate in punch lists, city inspections, safety reviews, quality reviews and prepare necessary documentation.
- Post drawings and specifications with most recent information.
- Organize and attend project meetings, prepare and disseminate documentation.
- Prepare reports including daily reports, weekly progress reports, unit reporting, percentage complete, manpower, production schedules and equipment tracking.
- Observe job site periodically with project leadership.
- Create procurement logs and track shop drawings and deliveries.
- Provide progress updates and support scheduling process.
- Support close‑out of projects, including punch list, O&M manuals, as‑built drawings.
- Utilize company best practice standards and fundamentals for building and construction techniques.
- Build relationships and communication skills with trades and team members.
- Develop understanding of various functions and support roles across the company.
- Collaborate and demonstrate teamwork in project setting.
- Incorporate Lean practices into regular activities.
- Identify and integrate self‑perform opportunities into the project.
- Implement project safety plans and ensure culture of compliance, using training, toolbox talks and communication with Safety Representatives.
- Prepare estimates, schedules, work plans and daily logs.
- Pre‑plan crew activities, fulfill the daily task plan and update project superintendent.
- Support job set‑up and project administration in CMiC and other company technologies.
- Manage subcontractor scope of work with the project team.
- Coordinate with internal project support functions.
- Control costs by evaluating and improving processes of assigned tasks.
- Assist with project crew scheduling.
- Provide analysis for materials and equipment costs on site.
- Participate in training and mentoring less experienced project team members.
- Attention to detail and timely completion of work.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of organizational structure and available resources.
- Understanding of Lean process and philosophy.
- Knowledge of construction technology and methods.
- Ability to apply fundamentals of construction management.
- Knowledge of self‑perform labor productivity.
- Ability to assess and optimize project productivity.
- Knowledge of specific trades and scopes of work.
- Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or related field.
- Equivalent relevant experience considered.
- 2+ years of construction experience.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
- May require periods of travel or relocation.
- Must be willing to work non‑traditional hours to meet project needs.
- May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold).
- Frequent activities: standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching above shoulder, pushing, pulling.
- Occasional activities: sitting, viewing computer screens.
