MD/DO Gastroenterology Hospitalist – UNC Rex
UNC REX Digestive Healthcare has been providing high‑quality gastroenterology care to patients in the Raleigh area for more than 50 years. It is one of the most advanced gastroenterology practices in Raleigh and throughout the Wake County area. UNC REX Digestive is seeking GI Hospitalists to join their team.
Job Responsibilities- General GI; EUS/ERCP beneficial but not required
- Affiliated cancer center with onsite pathology, surgery, radiology and full‑time admitting general medicine service
- Consultation‑only service
- Full‑time APP coverage to perform all consultations, daily follow‑up and procedure scheduling
- Physician supervision of APPs and endoscopic procedures
- Endoscopy suites – 5
- Total procedures – 8‑12 daily
- Large community hospital in Raleigh, NC
- Typical 3‑week schedule:
- 7 days of general GI inpatient coverage with APP support
- 5 days of general GI procedures
- One week off
- 1:4 call, 1:4 weekend coverage
- No outpatient responsibilities
- Approximately 3‑4 months off per year

Founded in 1894, UNC REX Healthcare (a member of UNC Health Care) is a private, not‑for‑profit health care system. For over 125 years, UNC REX has met the health care needs of our community throughout Wake County. Rex Hospital is a 480‑bed community‑based hospital.

Education Requirements- Graduation from an accredited school of medicine
- Board Certified Gastroenterology
- DEA, ACLS, MD
Skills and Abilities
- Proficient communication in English
- Reasoning Ability:
High‑level quantitative and qualitative reasoning required for diagnosis
North Carolina Medical License, DEA License, BLS/ACLS certification preferred. Board certified in Gastroenterology.
Physical DemandsRegularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, etc.; occasionally required to stand, walk, kneel, bend and reach. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
