The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at North Carolina State University (Raleigh, NC) is the largest in the state and among the largest and most prominent in the nation. The department offers Bachelor of Science (BS), Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy(PhD) degrees in both Mechanical Engineering (ME) and Aerospace Engineering (AE). The department also offers an accelerated BS/MS degrees in both mechanical engineering and aerospace engineering.
The strengths of the department include the thermal sciences, particularly thermal fluids, fluid mechanics, and combustion; mechanical sciences, including manufacturing mechanics, structural dynamics, materials, and controls; and the aerospace sciences, particularly aerodynamics, aircraft design, hypersonics, propulsion, flight research using UAVs, and computational fluid dynamics.
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering has an enrollment of approximately 1000 undergraduate students, 400 graduate students, and highly recognized faculty. Job Duties
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at NC State University invites applications for a full-time, nine-month Teaching Faculty position at open-rank levels (Assistant, Associate, or Full Teaching Professor). Appointments at the Associate or Full Teaching Professor levels will be considered for exceptional candidates. These are permanent, non-tenure-track positions with full university benefits.
Key Responsibilities Course InstructionTeach undergraduate courses in core areas of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering courses, which may include:
- Engineering mechanics (statics, dynamics, strength of materials)
- Thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer
- Mechanical design and manufacturing
- Systems dynamics and controls
Collaborate with faculty to develop, revise, and improve course content, instructional materials, and laboratory experiences to enhance student learning and program outcomes.
Student EngagementProvide academic advising, mentorship, and career guidance to students. Engage in activities that promote student success and retention.
Instructional InnovationIncorporate active learning strategies, modern pedagogical tools, and technology-enhanced instruction. Participate in departmental and university-wide teaching initiatives.
Service and CollaborationContribute to departmental service, including committee participation, outreach, and recruitment efforts. Collaborate with colleagues across the department, college, and university to support the educational mission.
