The Division of Academic & Student Affairs (DASA) is where students discover connections and community. It is where students live, gather, improve themselves and each other, and seek guidance and support both in and outside of the classroom. DASA serves all students at NC State through three integrated components: academic affairs, student affairs, and University College.

Team Captain / Counselor
The role is a counselor position for the annual Saturday‑to‑Saturday Summer Academy (June 21–27). The Team Captain will be resident at the NC State dormitory, available 24/7, and provide guidance to 10‑15 students.
Primary Purpose• Provide mentorship and coaching to students during the Summer Academy.
• Live on campus, attend all Academy activities, and ensure student safety.
• Coordinate with program directors, fellow captains, volunteers, and students.
• Manage early‑morning and late‑night room checks, workshop participation, and student behavior.
• Report any disciplinary or safety concerns immediately.
• Share personal experiences with education and graduation.
• Register on 4‑H Online as a volunteer.
• Perform occasional driving (minivan or 15‑passenger van) if required.
• Undertake any other duties as assigned.
Sunday, June 21 – Saturday, June 27; daily sessions 8:00 a.m. – midnight. Must stay on campus at all times.
Compensation & PerksCompensation: $1,000 stipend for one week plus housing and meals. Additional perks include free non‑revenue sporting events, childcare discounts, wellness memberships, and wellness programs (subject to employment status).
Requirements & Preferences• At least 19 years old by 6/20/2025.
• One year of enrollment at a higher education institution.
• Successful background check for work with minors.
• Social Security number for payment.
• NC driver’s license required only if driving.
Preferred:
- Experience with middle or high school youth.
- Leadership or group‑facilitation experience.
- Energetic, enthusiastic personality.
- Team‑player attitude.
- Self‑starter and self‑motivator.
- Passion for working with youth.
