Overview
Wake Technical Community College is seeking to expand our pool of part‑time faculty to teach Fire Services courses in Continuing Education Services. Openings may or may not be available at this time; however, after a review of qualifications, applicants may be contacted in the future. Adjunct faculty positions provide quality, effective instruction in assigned courses on a parttime, temporary basis.
Responsibilities- Delivers instruction that reflects appropriate learning outcomes consistent with the most current industry standards.
- Constructs classroom materials that support the goals of the course.
- Prepares thoroughly for each instructional hour.
- Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner.
- Maintains accurate records of student work and attendance.
- Uses formative and summative assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching.
- Designs curriculum and a schedule of instruction.
- Maintains communication with course committee instructors and participates in instructional discussions.
- Remains up‑to‑date on technology and methods of teaching with technology.
- Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment.
- Grades and returns student work in a timely manner.
- Counsels students regarding their grades and progress in the course.
- Supports the Department, Division, and College goals, providing requested data in a timely manner.
- Demonstrated history of successful teaching outcomes in related educational environments.
- Basic knowledge of fire service machines and tools.
- Basic knowledge of law and government.
- Management of Material Resources Skills.
- Critical Thinking Skills.
- Knowledge of presentation techniques incorporating various kinds of media production.
NC Fire & Rescue Commission (General Instructor Level I) OR a combination of equivalent education and experience delivering fire, rescue, emergency preparedness, emergency medical training programs. At a minimum the applicant must be listed as certified in the discipline being taught when courses are not for certification.
Preferred- NC Fire & Rescue Commission (General Instructor Level II).
- Currently “Qualified” by the NC Fire and Rescue Commission in the subject area being instructed.
- Advanced degrees and/or related public safety discipline instructor certification may be required for instruction in non‑fire certification.
