Adjunct Instructor, Heavy Equipment Technician

Wake Technical Community College is seeking to expand its pool of part‑time faculty to teach Heavy Equipment classes. Openings may be available after a review of qualifications. Adjunct faculty positions provide quality, effective instruction in assigned courses on a part‑time, temporary basis.

Responsibilities
  • Instructs and guides the class in an efficient and effective manner
  • Maintains accurate records of student work and attendance
  • Prepares thoroughly for each instructional hour
  • Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment
  • Grades and returns student work in a timely manner
  • Counsels students regarding their grades and progress in the course
  • Constructs classroom materials that support the goals of the course
  • Designs curriculum and a schedule of instruction
  • Maintains regular office hours
  • Stays abreast of most current teaching methods and classroom technology
  • Uses assessment techniques to improve student learning outcomes and teaching methods
  • Serves on college or department committees as assigned by the Department Head
  • Attends professional development opportunities when possible
  • Assists with establishing goals and objectives for the course, selecting text, and constructing a syllabus
  • Maintains communication with instructors from other divisions to keep courses up-to-date and appropriate
  • Participates in graduation exercises as required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning
  • Be innovative, creative, and motivated
  • Ability to exhibit good interpersonal skills and work well with others
  • Ability to maintain records accurately and meet deadlines consistently
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to perform normal duties with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Demonstrates resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sincere interest in helping students reach their maximum potential
  • Knowledge of and facility with technology and software including computers and web‑based resources such as Blackboard
  • Computer skills using basic functions of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Requirements
  • Diploma in Heavy Equipment and Transport Technology or Automotive Repair
  • Five years of work experience as a heavy equipment technician
  • OR Associate degree in Heavy Equipment Technology
  • Three years of work experience as a heavy equipment technician
Preferences
  • Associate degree in Heavy Equipment and Transport Technology
  • Battery/electric forklift repair experience
  • Manufacturer or other equipment certifications
