Substation Business Class Manager - (186899)
HDR is seeking a dynamic and experienced Substation Business Class Manager to lead and grow our nationally ranked Power Delivery team. This management role focuses on strategic management, team development, and operational excellence within the Substation discipline. The successful candidate will be a key member of HDR’s North Carolina Power Delivery management team and responsible for the activities outlined below.
Responsibilities- Team Management & Development
:
Build and manage a high-performing substation engineering team, including recruiting talent, assigning responsibilities, mentoring senior staff, and fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration. - Project Oversight & Resource Allocation
:
Oversee execution of substation projects, ensuring quality, timeliness, and budget adherence. Plan resources, assign qualified personnel per scope, and ensure adherence to HDR’s project execution process. - Strategic Growth & Business Planning
:
Support regional and national growth strategies by identifying market opportunities, developing client relationships, and aligning team capabilities with business objectives. Create annual area substation vision statements aligning team goals with company goals to include resource growth, bookings, revenue, and profit targets. - Client Engagement & Relationship Management
:
Establish and maintain strong relationships with key clients in the area; translate client goals into effective execution strategies that deliver value and build long-term partnerships. - Technical Leadership & Innovation
:
Collaborate with national technical leaders to guide the substation discipline’s technical direction, promote continuous improvement, and support development of specialized expertise. May include contributing to industry professional organizations through papers, presentations, and industry conferences. - Collaboration & Integration
:
Work with Client Managers, Operational Managers, and Technical Leaders to ensure seamless integration of services and consistent delivery of world-class solutions.
- Previous staff supervision experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Design experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects up to 500 kV, including conceptual knowledge of P&C design and IEEE/ANSI and other applicable standards
- Experience using industry standard design software (AutoCAD and/or Micro Station)
- Ability to travel, less than 10%
- Actively engaged in professional activities to enhance HDR’s technical expertise and brand
- Local candidates preferred

- Bachelor's degree in a professional, architecture, engineering, or closely related field
- 10 years of experience
- Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
- Professional engineering registration and related technical experience
- Experience in development and management of diverse teams
- Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
- Active participant in HDR’s employee-owned culture
