Substation Business Class Manager

HDR is seeking a dynamic and experienced Substation Business Class Manager to lead and grow our nationally ranked Power Delivery team. This management role will be focused on strategic management, team development, and operational excellence within the Substation discipline.

As a key member of our NC Power Delivery management team, the Substation Business Class Manager will be responsible for:

• Team Management & Development:
  Building and managing a high-performing substation engineering team.
• Project Oversight & Resource Allocation:
  Overseeing the execution of substation projects, ensuring quality, timeliness, and budget adherence.
• Strategic Growth & Business Planning:
  Supporting regional and national growth strategies by identifying market opportunities, developing client relationships, and aligning team capabilities with business objectives.
• Client Engagement & Relationship Management:
  Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with key clients in the area.
• Technical Leadership & Innovation:
  Working with the national technical leaders to guide the technical direction of the substation discipline, promoting continuous improvement, and supporting the development of specialized expertise.
• Collaboration & Integration:
  Working with Client Managers, Operational Managers, and Technical Leaders to ensure seamless integration of services and consistent delivery of world-class solutions.

This role requires a self-motivated, strategic thinker with strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of substation engineering, and the ability to manage teams and projects.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous staff supervision experience preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
• Design experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects of varying complexity up to 500kV.
• Experience using industry standard design software (AutoCAD and/or Micro Station)
• Ability to travel, less than 10%
• Actively engaged in professional or industry associated to enhance HDR’s technical expertise and brand
• Local candidates are preferred

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
• 10 years of experience
• Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
• Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
• Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
• Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
• An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
