Job Overview
Eaton’s CPDI OPS Operations division is currently seeking a Test Engineer - 2nd Shift based in Raleigh, NC.
The Test Engineer is responsible for maintaining, designing, and deploying computer‑automated test systems and processes, including developing and maintaining test and diagnostic programs, test fixtures, and supporting equipment. The role implements test procedures and processes for assigned products and provides advanced troubleshooting of test equipment and units under test (UUT).
Expected annual salary range: $68,000 - $99,000. Salary is a general guideline and may vary based on skills, experience, and qualifications.
What You’ll Do- Specify, design, build, debug, validate and deploy computer‑automated test systems and processes for manufacturing.
- Generate and implement complete test plans based on product knowledge and test methodologies.
- Develop or improve functional test equipment and procedures, and sub‑assembly functional test equipment and procedures.
- Conduct fault insertion and analysis to determine test coverage and provide feedback for Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) and troubleshooting procedures.
- Collect data from test fixtures and provide test data to the Quality team and other stakeholders.
- Train test operators on the test process and on using and maintaining test equipment.
- Drive continuous improvement for all test processes.
- Assist with capital projects for test equipment, test facility enhancements, and new product start‑ups.
- Implement engineering changes to enhance product quality, including test equipment, software and hardware updates.
- Reduce cycle time and cost using Lean Manufacturing techniques.
- Maintain test and equipment documentation to meet ISO 9001, including equipment calibration.
- Develop and execute test strategies to ensure product specifications are met throughout production.
- Lead Electrical Safety implementation and serve as the Electrical Safety Site Responsible Person.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 1 year experience in electrical testing or designing automated test equipment and processes.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.
- Relocation assistance is not available; candidates must be within a 60‑mile radius of the location.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
- Knowledge of communication protocols including GPIB, RS-232, CAN, I2C, and JTAG.
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code Safety Requirements.
- Experience with ISO 9001 and other industry/customer quality processes.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodology.
- Technical understanding of product and end‑user application/specifications, including product testing requirements.
- Knowledge of C++, C#, Visual Basic, Lab View, SQL, Access, ASP, Test Stand.
- Demonstrated knowledge of test software.
- Successful execution as both an individual contributor and team member.
- Ability to read schematics and interpret electronic systems behavior with embedded code and DSP controls.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with logical methods and effective solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self‑motivated, self‑managed, team‑oriented, proactive, detail‑oriented, and task‑oriented, able to overcome obstacles to meet schedule requirements.
