Job OverviewWe are open to candidates based out of our Raleigh or Charlotte CDM Smith offices. Would you like to lead all the technical aspects of complex designs with a group of talented multi-discipline engineers? This role focuses on key areas of technical delivery within the Global Delivery Excellence Framework (GDEF).
Responsibilities- Lead technical aspects of complex design projects with multi‑disciplinary engineering teams.
- Develop and drive the technical vision of projects in close collaboration with the Project Manager.
- Coordinate technical content for both design and non‑design projects, focusing on preemptive, preventive, and proactive delivery approaches.
- Lead teams in the design of water and wastewater treatment facilities, water and sewer systems, pipelines, pump stations, remediation sites, solid waste facilities, and similar projects of moderate to high complexity.
- Review draft designs and reports for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; sign off on completed designs while ensuring firm policies and practices are followed.
- Perform site reviews and studies as needed to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications and update design requirements accordingly.
- Conduct water quality analyses and modeling; contribute to the firm’s Technical Knowledge Management (TKM) by developing white papers, technical documentation, and submitting papers to technical journals.
- Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client RFPs; review draft proposals for regulatory adherence and best practices.
- Meet with current and future clients to review their design needs; attend conferences and symposia to promote the firm’s products and services in collaboration with sales staff.
- Act as a point of contact for external clients and industry contacts; collaborate with clients and government officials to clarify technical questions and provide project updates.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior staff; may supervise the work of junior engineers on project work.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- 12 years of related engineering experience.
- Domestic and/or international travel may be required. Travel frequency is contingent on specific duties and project demands.
- Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Certification/License Requirements:
Professional Engineer.
- Experience with large plants – either local municipalities or industrial sites.
Domestic and/or international travel may be required. Travel frequency is contingent on duties; approximately 10% of the work involves travel.
