About the Department
- The Lampe Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) is a unique program that bridges the School of Medicine and College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina (UNC) and the College of Engineering at NC State University. Furthermore, the resources of the UNC-NC State Rehabilitation Engineering Core, Human Movement Science Program at UNC, NSFERCASSIST Center at NC State, and NC State College of Veterinary Medicine provide powerful opportunities for Rehabilitation Engineering faculty to develop multidisciplinary and translational collaborations.

Our mission is to improve human quality of life, personal and work environments, and rehabilitation products and processes through careful study, analysis, research, and design of innovative technologies to benefit the people of North Carolina, the nation, and the world.

We seek outstanding faculty candidates conducting research in areas that complement or expand our strengths in Biomedical Microdevices, Rehabilitation Engineering, Biomedical Imaging, Pharmacoengineering, and Regenerative Medicine. Lampe BME's mission is to "Unite Engineering and Medicine to Improve Lives," and our goal is to make an impact through ideation, translation, and commercialization of technologies to have an impact on human health and well-being.

Candidates will have the opportunity to grow and sustain an independent research program while collaborating across engineering, basic sciences, and clinical disciplines.
