Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineer
Schneider Electric is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer-Power Systems to join our dynamic team.
Why Tech ExploreData center demand is surging as AI workloads, rising power density, limited energy availability, and sustainability goals reshape electrical infrastructure. Medium-voltage conversion, DC distribution, grid-interactive storage, and advanced UPS controls may redefine future data centers. Tech Explore identifies, models, prototypes, and validates the architectures that will meet customers' mid- and long-term needs.
What You Will DoAs a senior technical contributor in the Chief Technology Office (CTO) Data Center of the Future Tech Explore team, you will report to the team leader. You will lead exploration of next-generation data center power architectures, working with Schneider Electric divisions, customers, partners, and universities.
- Translate disruptive trends into power-system requirements and technology-selection criteria
- Develop architectures from the grid interface to the IT load, including MV/LV distribution, UPS, energy storage, power conversion, backup generation, and DC distribution
- Model and simulate load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, transient, harmonic, and stability performance using tools such as ETAP, PSCAD, or MATLAB/Simulink
- Assess how dynamic AI loads affect utilities, generators, UPS, storage, and distribution equipment
- Lead proof‑of‑concept builds and laboratory or field validation, including test plans and acceptance criteria
- Develop control strategies for load smoothing, peak shaving, ride‑through, grid support, and microgrid operation
- Evaluate emerging technologies and suppliers; identify portfolio gaps and incubation opportunities
- Capture results in technical reports, reference designs, white papers, and patents
- Mentor engineers and represent Tech Explore at customer workshops, industry groups, conferences, and standards discussions
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- More than 5 years of experience in power systems, critical facilities, data centers, power conversion, energy storage, or utility systems
- Proven experience developing power architectures, reference designs, or control concepts
- Experience with simulation tools and laboratory or field testing
- Familiarity with North American and international standards for power conversion, electrical safety, energy storage, and utility interconnection
- Ability to structure ambiguous problems, challenge assumptions, and make evidence-based recommendations
- Excellent communication, customer focus, and ability to lead global, matrixed teams without direct authority
- Desirable: PE registration or specialist certification; SESAM Level 1 or 2 for internal candidates
- English fluency required;
French, Spanish, or another language is an advantage
