Overview
North Carolina Heart and Vascular in Wakefield is seeking a dynamic and compassionate Certified Medical Assistant to join our team. In this role, your primary responsibilities will include rooming patients, recording vital signs, conducting EKGs, and applying heart monitors in a Cardiology office. You will also manage an in-basket, handling tasks such as calling patients with results, refilling medications, and more.
Our office accommodates approximately fifty to sixty patients on most days. This position will support the clinic on Mondays and Fridays. Hours are 8 am to 4:30 pm. We are closed nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities- Performs rooming and/or intake process, collecting data including vital signs, height/weight, and reason for visit.
- Collects patient and family data, including medical and social history.
- Reviews patient’s current medication list, allergies and preferred pharmacy.
- Assists the provider as directed during treatments, examinations and procedures.
- Collects specimens and performs phlebotomy.
- Administers medications under the direction of a provider.
- Performs tests (e.g., EKG, eye exams) under the direction of a provider.
- Reviews the patient record to determine whether routine health screenings are needed.
- Ensures exam/procedure rooms contain appropriate supplies, equipment, forms and educational materials.
- Provides patient with after-visit, follow-up, self-care or procedural instructions and/or educational materials as directed.
- Prepares, cleans, stocks and maintains exam and treatment rooms.
- Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
- Assists with patient registration, check-in/check-out, appointment scheduling, tests and treatments, and referrals.
- Answers clinic telephone and assists in-basket under the direction of a provider or nurse.
- Assists in emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse.
- Additional essential responsibilities of a Certified Medical Assistant II may include: precepts new hires/externs, trains other medical assistants, assists in maintaining preventive health measures for a patient panel, and may participate in clinic quality or safety duties and supply management.
- Education Requirements: None required as long as other position qualifications are met. Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES is strongly preferred but not required.
- Licensure/Certification Requirements: Requires Medical Assistant certification by AAMA, AMT, CCMA, NRCMA, or NCMA. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or ARC required.
- Professional Experience Requirements: At least one year of full-time experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified. Demonstrate competencies via the Medical Assistant, Certified Advancement Worksheet during application/interview.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to perform essential functions, effective communication and interpersonal skills, positive engagement with patients and families, teamwork, and ability to document information in an electronic medical record.
