The Equine Emergency service is overseen by specialists with board certification in Equine Surgery and Equine Critical Care. The ambulatory service is a new section within the Emergency Service that will see on-farm primary emergency cases from local subscribing practices on weekdays from 5 pm to 8 am Monday through Thursday, and on the weekends from 5 pm Friday through 8 am Monday. Local practices are able to join this service, which will provide emergency services for the practice, through a monthly subscription fee.

The service will employ two clinicians, who will split the on‑call hours. Emergency case load for this new service is projected to be 552 cases annually. Ambulatory Emergency clinicians will be supported by one after‑hours technician/student assistant. The Ambulatory Emergency clinicians will have case consultation support from hospital criticalists as needed. The clinicians will be expected to utilize open, frequent communication via in‑person, phone, and email interactions to develop strong collaborations with referring veterinarians of the subscribing practices.

The Ambulatory Emergency Clinicians will train students and house officers while seeing emergency cases in the field.
