Position Summary
UNC Health Rex Hospital is seeking experienced Respiratory Therapist II professionals to provide high-quality respiratory care services during an FMLA/LOA coverage period. Under the direction of department leadership, the Respiratory Therapist II demonstrates advanced knowledge in respiratory care and delivers competent, patient-centered care across assigned clinical areas.
Key Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive respiratory care, including airway management, mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, and aerosol therapy.
- Perform ventilator setup, advanced ventilator mode management, patient monitoring, and ventilator weaning.
- Administer respiratory treatments such as aerosol medications, bedside pulmonary function testing, breathing exercises, oxygen therapy, and arterial punctures.
- Perform all aspects of airway management, including tracheostomy care, tracheostomy tube changes, suctioning, intubations, and extubations.
- Provide respiratory support for neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients as assigned.
- Participate in Carolina Air Care , including transport of pediatric and neonatal patients and performing advanced procedures per protocol (UAC, UVC, IV insertion, IO access, chest tube insertion, needle decompression, ABGs, glucose monitoring).
- Support ECMO services by managing extracorporeal circulation for cardiac and respiratory support when assigned.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
- Function independently with minimal supervision and serve as a clinical resource to other staff.
- Maintain competency, certifications, and ongoing professional development.
- Participate in night, weekend, and holiday coverage as required by staffing needs.
Education
- Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
Licensure & Certifications
- Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through the NBRC .
- One or more of the following certifications based on patient population served:
- ACLS
- NRP
- PALS
- CPFT
- Advanced practice certification for moderate sedation (Bronchoscopy Lab)
- All certifications must be current and maintained.
- NICU experience
- EPIC EMR experience
- Experience with SERVO-U ventilators
- Interest in Temp-to-Perm opportunity
