Wake County Public Libraries (WCPL) seeks a dynamic and visionary IT Manager / Senior Library Manager of IT (
Library Division Manager
) to join our Leadership Team. This senior-level position serves as a core member of the Library Leadership Team and oversees the library’s technology services, IT operations, and online presence, ensuring that technology supports WCPL’s focus on access, equity, literacy, and lifelong learning.
The IT Manager is expected to be a forward-thinking leader who can anticipate trends in the IT realm, champion innovation, and move library technology initiatives from concept to implementation. This role requires balancing strategic vision with operational excellence, ensuring that WCPL is positioned as a leader in digital services and community-centered technology.
Key Responsibilities- Strategic Oversight of Digital Library & Online Services (30%)
- Lead teams whose roles include maintenance and ongoing enhancements relating to web presence, online catalog, mobile apps, and digital access to library resources.
- Ensure digital services are accessible, inclusive, and user-friendly.
- Drive innovation in digital literacy, programming, and emerging technologies.
- Develop and execute a long-term vision for digital transformation in public library services.
- Supervising the Library Information and Technology Operations – Leading a team whose roles include task outlined below. (30%)
- Provide strategic oversight and direction to IT staff responsible for managing public computers, staff systems, and network infrastructure.
- Supervise personnel handling lifecycle management of PCs, printers, kiosks, and makerspace tools.
- Ensure cybersecurity, data privacy, and compliance with county IT standards through delegated implementation and monitoring.
- Oversee vendor relationships for outsourced services, with staff support in day‑to‑day coordination.
- Guide the analysis of user feedback and digital analytics, empowering staff to implement improvements.
- Lead strategic modernization initiatives, ensuring alignment with WCPL’s long‑term IT infrastructure goals are scalable and future‑ready.
- Library Leadership & Strategic Planning (25%)
- Contribute to WCPL’s strategic planning efforts.
- Play a key role in capital improvement projects, ensuring technology integration in new and renovated facilities.
- Serve as liaison to county departments such as Communications, IT, and Community Services as needed.
- Inspire staff and stakeholders with a visionary roadmap for technology growth.
- Lead initiatives in digital literacy, e‑resources, and emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence driven search tools, cloud‑based services, and virtual programming.
- Community Engagement & Support (15%)
- Collaborate with staff to integrate technology into programming and patron services.
- Support initiatives that promote digital inclusion and equitable access.
- Provide staff training and patron support for technology use.
- Position WCPL as a regional leader in digital equity and innovation.
This position works from the Library Administration Building located at 4020 Carya Drive, Raleigh, 27610, on the beautiful campus adjacent to the Olivia Raney Local History Library and Historic Oak View County Park.

Education and Experience )
