A day in the life- Collaborate with the legal team across the United States to implement enterprise-wide approaches to managing contract and other risks
- Collaborate with project managers and leaders to understand business objectives when negotiating agreements
- Advise members of safety, finance, IT, and HR teams
- Review, draft, and negotiate construction and other contracts with minimal supervision
- Manage, maintain, and coordinate all documentation related to construction contracts and day-to-day issues
- Prepare and present training to non-legal business operators on legal issues in the construction industry
- Assess and mitigate ARCO’s risk and provide suggestions to General Counsel and business leadership
- Maintain and grow relationships with vendors and title companies
- Assist Operations and Leadership in problem-solving and risk management
- Manage communications and deliverables in a deadline-driven environment
- Work with, and efficiently direct the work of, shared paralegal support
- Licensed Attorney with 7+ years of experience practicing construction law
- Experience in, or working closely with, construction organizations or firms is preferred
- Strong transactional experience or a mix of transactional and construction litigation/claims management is preferred
- Experience leading negotiations of construction contracts or dispute resolution with sophisticated counter parties
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify legal issues and provide practical solutions
- Familiarity with insurance in the construction industry is preferred
- Ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders
- Flexible, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to lead and follow as needed and work as part of a highly collaborative legal team
- Active listener with proactive leadership and collaboration
- Enjoy working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented business environment
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines
