Job SummarySouthern Industrial Constructors Inc. is seeking a Corporate Director of Safety to work out of our Raleigh, NC office. The Corporate Director of Safety is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the company‑wide safety strategy to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal policies including initial claims management. This role will lead a team of regional and site‑level safety professionals and collaborate with senior leadership to foster a culture of safety, compliance, sustainability, and operational excellence across all industrial construction projects.
Duties- Actively promote and strengthen our core values and culture of Mission First, People Always through everyday actions and decisions.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive safety strategy aligned with corporate goals and industry best practices.
- Serve as the primary advisor to executive leadership on safety matters.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable regulations.
- Lead audits, inspections, and risk assessments across all job sites and facilities.
- Manage incident investigations and root‑cause analyses, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Design and implement safety programs, policies, and training initiatives.
- Ensure programs are compliant with regulatory agency guidelines, internal company guidelines, and EMCOR expectations.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing safety team across multiple regions.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through engagement, communication, and recognition programs.
- Develop and maintain safety performance metrics and dashboards.
- Provide regular reports to executive leadership and regulatory agencies as required.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to integrate safety into project planning and execution.
- Represent the company in industry forums, regulatory meetings, and community outreach efforts.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 10+ years of progressive safety leadership experience in industrial construction or a related industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- In‑depth knowledge of federal and state safety regulations.
- Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and drive cultural change.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Willingness to travel to project sites (up to 50%).
- Ability to read and understand detailed safety and contract‑related verbiage.
- Ability to work in Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and to learn new software systems as required.
- Ability to effectively present on safety related topics in front of groups of employees, clients, and others.
- Familiarity with construction safety technologies (e.g., wearables, drones, EHS software platforms).
- Bilingual capabilities (e.g., English/Spanish) are a plus.
Conditions include working in office, shop, busy traffic areas, warehouses, and undeveloped properties, with frequent exposure to dirt, dust, grease, oil, vibrations, and adverse weather conditions. Must be able to safely access all areas of property, buildings, structures, rooftops, and other elevated positions, as well as confined spaces. Must be able to effectively use all required PPE equipment and lift up to fifty pounds.
Strenuous physical demands are required to safely perform the essential functions associated with this position. Must be able to safely operate all involved equipment and tools. Must be capable of standing for long periods of time, bending consistently, working in confined spaces with limited access, on ladders, in personnel lifts, and working in awkward body positions.
