Join The Nonwovens Institute team at NC State University! For over 30 years, The Nonwovens Institute (NWI) has supported the growth of the nonwovens industry through knowledge creation, knowledge transfer, education and service engagement.

The TEMP Process Technician position is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic industry and participate with a team in the operation of lab and pilot nonwovens equipment, in development and manufacturing.

Prior experience in nonwovens production is NOT required. Candidates can learn this position with full support while on the job. A willingness to work and learn is important. Responsibilities will include:

  • Safely operate lab and pilot equipment & vehicles with training.
  • Work as part of lab and production team (typically about 5 people).
  • Maintain lab equipment, lab cleanliness, and organization.
  • Participate in lab inventories, ordering supplies with training.
  • Participate in careful equipment operation as part of a team - running development trials and/or production trials for clients.
  • Movement of materials and supplies between labs and warehouse/storage.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements and Preferences

Work Schedule:

40 hours/week; standard shift is 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; sometimes OT, and/or start/stop time variation is needed to meet the business need.

Other Work/Responsibilities
  • No loose clothing/jewelry and long hair tied back
  • 100% cotton undershirt with cotton/cotton‑poly blend shirt, and thick 100% cotton long pants (loose fitting). Closed toe shoes
  • Work attire shall be supplemented, as necessary, with the appropriate gloves and other PPE necessary for the tasks to be performed. Please reference PPE Assessment and Standard Operating Procedures with Lab Managers before beginning work. If you have questions, check with your supervisor to determine appropriate dress for your job.
  • PPE to be provided and worn: NWI Pilot Labs (TEX, CTI & Partners) - protective eyewear, safety shoes
  • Eye protection must conform to the American National Standards Institute, Standard Z87.1‑1989. Prescription safety glasses are required for employees who must routinely wear safety glasses in lieu of fitting safety glasses over their personal glasses. All safety glasses shall have side protection
  • Steel‑toed boots (University provides up to $125 towards the cost)
