The Office of University Interdisciplinary Programs builds on successful interdisciplinary efforts that began under NC State’s previous strategic plan. The office consolidates key initiatives that cross disciplinary boundaries and fosters partnerships with university-level interdisciplinary programs. Its work aligns with Wolfpack 2030:
Powering the Extraordinary and advances the university’s land‑grant mission of excellent teaching, research, and community engagement. This new position will lead the facilitation and synergy of communication efforts across OUIP and its reporting units, bridging the gaps between OUIP’s needs, the Provost’s Office Communications team, and program‑level communicators. The role also offers opportunities to amplify OUIP‑level initiatives such as art‑science collaborations and Think and Do Tanks.
- Develop strategies to standardize branding and streamline communication processes across OUIP units.
- Create mechanisms for units to contribute to a common newsletter and showcase key events and stories of interdisciplinary scholarship, teaching, and problem solving.
- Incorporate data‑driven storytelling and visualization techniques into communications.
- Convene the OUIP communications team and serve as liaison with the Provost’s Office Communications team.
- Contribute to the promotion of OUIP efforts via Linked In and other social media platforms.
- Update and maintain OUIP’s Word Press website, particularly the events page, and create systems to manage public and internal event databases.
- Assist the Provost’s Office Communications team in streamlining brand practices to produce consistently branded materials such as brochures, slide decks, handouts, and other media.
- Identify OUIP’s priorities versus individual unit priorities, particularly in promoting events and initiatives.
NC State is a leader in public science and in developing novel approaches for audience engagement. The coordinator will engage with a vibrant community of scholars and practitioners, sharing and benefiting from cutting‑edge communication practices.

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the assignment plus five (5) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Skills- Ability to craft data‑driven visuals that resonate with diverse audiences (students, donors, alumni, program stakeholders).
- Clear, professional communication of complex information.
- Balance big‑picture thinking with detail orientation to assess and address communications needs across multiple units.
- Ability to evaluate the impact of communications, events, and outreach initiatives and identify target audiences.
- Experience with social media platforms to promote visibility and connect stakeholders.
- Skill in building and maintaining productive relationships with administrators and academics campus‑wide.
- Comfort leading meetings and guiding a team of experienced communications professionals.
- High organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Clear, professional articulation of organizational needs and priorities.
- Adaptability to changing communication landscapes, strategies, and priorities.
- Curiosity about wide‑ranging scholarly topics (e.g., AI‑driven molecular innovation, music from decaying organisms, silk genetics).
- Familiarity with AP style.
- Experience with graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Design) and staying current with new technologies.
- Word Press backend experience, ideally within higher education.
- Proficiency with the Google suite and tools for hybrid/distance teams.
