The ReStore Volunteer Manager is responsible for structuring, implementing, and managing the volunteer program for our 10 ReStore locations. Responsibilities include volunteer recruitment, retention, appreciation, and program development. The ReStore Volunteer Manager directly manages volunteers, providing guidance, support, resources, and tools to other staff members who also manage volunteers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Recruitment and Outreach
  • Maintain public presence of volunteer opportunities through social media, volunteer recruitment fairs, website content, social media, and marketing materials.
  • Create effective community outreach plans for specific projects and volunteer roles.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with service clubs, schools, social groups, and community businesses; collaborate with other Habitat departments.
  • Manage and coordinate requests for group volunteer days at all locations.
  • Respond to volunteer inquiries promptly.
Retention and Appreciation
  • Train staff to work effectively and cooperatively with volunteers, ensuring a safe, healthy, and supportive environment.
  • Provide tools for staff to ensure that volunteers are given appropriate training to be successful in their positions.
  • Maintain and add existing volunteer benefits like quarterly incentives and volunteer discounts.
  • Work with the ReStore volunteer point-of-contact staff to plan and implement formal and informal volunteer recognition activities.
  • Regular store visits to maintain relationships with core volunteers to assess volunteer experience.
Program Development and Maintenance
  • Develop, administer, and review policies and procedures that guide the volunteer programs and services, to reflect the overall values of the organization.
  • Manage online volunteer database and ensure that volunteer hours are accurately tracked, forms are updated, and records are maintained.
  • Work with staff to evaluate volunteer contributions to understand the effectiveness of the program.
  • Prepare a quarterly and yearly report of volunteer data.
  • Host bi-annual meetings with the volunteer point of contact from each store. Attends quarterly Manager meetings.
  • Develop and administer a budget for the volunteer program activities and monitor expenditures against the approved budget.
  • Risk management, including volunteer background checks and recording volunteer incidents and concerns; this may involve working with volunteers, ReStore staff, ReStore leadership, and the Director of Community & Volunteer Engagement to resolve challenges.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Volunteer Hub skills – a plus but not necessary.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Quality written and verbal communication.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Self-motivated problem solver.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • 2+ years of volunteer or other management experience.
  • Customer service or related experience preferred but not required.
GUIDELINES

Adherence to the Affiliate strategic plan, included within Habitat Wake’s overall plan and mission. Additional employee guidelines are provided in the HFHWC Policy and Procedure Manual.

COMPLEXITY

Responsibilities involve multitasking several activities with differing deadlines, importance, and stakeholders, requiring exceptional ability to organize and prioritize work and manage time. Ongoing training is critical.

All work must comply with applicable laws, as well as Habitat Wake’s guidelines, policies, and mission statement.

The ReStore Volunteer Manager has frequent contact with other HFHWC staff, families, volunteers, and sponsors.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
