POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Senior Youth Director (or Associate Executive Director) and in partnership with the Senior Director of Association Teen Programs, the Teen Director is responsible for leading and developing assigned Teen Programs, Teen Membership and Teen Staff Recruitment efforts. The Teen Director is responsible for managing the functions of the program in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS
  • Contributes to and supervises the fulfillment of the YMCA mission through teen initiatives, teen programs, teen members and staff.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with local middle and high schools, churches with large youth/teen groups and other community organizations serving/supporting teens and families in our community, through events and programs.
  • Partners with local middle and high schools to provide onsite extensions of Y Leaders Club.
  • Supports the overall vision for teen, branch and association initiatives.
  • Plans and promotes high quality, engaging and relevant programming that meets the ever-changing needs of teens and their families.
  • Continually evaluates, improves, and innovates all assigned programs to ensure they meet or exceed Association guidelines and standards.
  • Develops and executes a comprehensive teen staff recruitment model that helps connect teens to YMCA employment.
  • Connects with teen members to help them more fully engage with the YMCA through their membership.
  • Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within areas of responsibility.
  • Maintains all records of their assigned programs that are necessary for the operation of the department and branch effectively.
  • Recruits and hires staff and volunteers across multiple dimensions of diversity. Responsible for onboarding and developing them for success.
  • Maintains current and required certifications and records for staff according to the YMCA of the Triangle requirements.
  • Attends all meetings that are pertinent to this position including branch Youth Department, Membership Engagement and Director meetings and Association Teen Director meetings.
  • Assists with the YMCA Annual Campaign through development of staff team, recruiting volunteers and meeting annual fundraising goals as assigned. Teaches the importance of philanthropy to and engages teens and families in the Annual Campaign.
  • Maintains a flexible work schedule, including evening and weekends as needed.
  • Directly supervises and ensures the proper implementation of the following programs throughout the year:
    • Middle School After School
    • Leaders Club
    • Youth and Government (YAG)
    • Day Camp
    • Y Achievers
  • Assists in developing new teen programs for the Alexander Y/YMCA of the Triangle.
  • Lead and support the branch in the recruitment, retention, and engagement of teen members.
  • Provides an engaging environment for Teens to come together and 2-3 nights per week and occasional weekends.
  • Serve as a primary resource for the recruitment and development of teen staff throughout the branch.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred and/or 1-2 years of related experience.
  • Experienced in and passionate about creating and fostering communities and relationship building through programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in program and personnel development.
  • Ability to effectively manage staff, programs, and department schedules.
  • Oral, public speaking and written communication skills.
  • Requires a positive attitude, high level of initiative and professionalism, and enjoy working in and creating a strong team environment.
  • Demonstrate initiative, effectively prioritize, and possess strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Multi-lingual desired but not required.
