SummaryThe CRNA will employ multiple modalities – regional anesthesia, MAC sedation and general anesthesia – to provide adequate analgesia or anesthesia during surgical procedures. The scope of practice is defined by the American Association caafima and the North Carolina Practice Act, and providers are accountable to the North Carolina Board of Nursing. This role includes a wide mix of cases such as general, orthopedics, urology, plastics, GYN, podiatry, dental, ENT, ophthalmology, endoscopy, cardioversions/TEE, IR, and labor‑delivery epidurals.
Responsibilities- Performs pre‑anesthetic evaluations on patients, utilizes established guidelines, and administers appropriate pre‑operative medications. Consults with physicians as needed and ensures all patient/family questions are satisfactorily addressed.
- Verifies patient identity and correct procedure(s), checks for appropriate physical status for anesthesia/analgesia, and follows through as warranted.
- Ensures that anesthesia machine, breathing circuits, monitoring equipment, suction devices, and all other equipment will be fully operational prior to the scheduled procedure. Confirms availability of backup and emergency drugs on the anesthesia cart.
- Appropriately establishes intravenous/intra‑arterial lines, applies appropriate monitors based on patient needs and procedural requirements.
- Induces and maintains inhalation, intravenous, local, regional and topical anesthesia, continuously monitors drug effects, and adjusts dosage to maintain optimal physiological function consistent with patient safety and procedural goals.
Masters in nursing and certificate graduate of an approved Nurse Anesthetist program.
Licensure / Certification Requirements- Cert/Recert by the National Board of Certification & Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists.
- Registered Nurse (RN).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification.
- BASIC CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT (BCLS) certification.
CRNAs with the required education and credentials are eligible to apply.
