Temporary Research Specialist

North Carolina State University. Position is Temporary Technical/Paraprofessional. Work schedule Monday-Friday, flexible hours.

Responsibilities
  • Perform microbiology experiments with non-pathogenic microorganisms to test the efficacy of clean-in-place sanitation using plasma-activated water.
  • Perform chemical assays, including protein characterization, antioxidant activity measurement, etc.
  • Maintain quality standards to preserve integrity of data and findings.
  • Write, prepare, and proof-read technical papers for peer-reviewed journals.
  • Analyze data using various statistical methods.
  • Write reports to funding agencies summarizing data and presenting implications.
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and training videos on lab equipment operation.
  • Mentor junior assistants in troubleshooting research experiments.
Qualifications
  • 4-year degree or equivalent combination of training/experience.
  • Experience with microbiology experiments.
  • Experience with chemical assays (protein characterization, antioxidant activity, etc.).
  • Experience in writing grant proposals, scientific reports, and research articles.
  • Knowledge of research methods in food microbiology, food chemistry, food engineering.
  • B.S. in Food Science or related field preferred.
