Working Title: Temporary Research Technician – Cotton Breeding

Temporary employee will be part of the cotton breeding and genetics research team.

Duties include:

• Making crosses in the field
• Selfing cotton flowers in the field
• Harvesting, ginning and acid delinting cotton samples
• Seed preparation for storage
• Planting and helping to grow plants in the greenhouse and fields
• Perform day‑to‑day activities of greenhouse care and maintenance
• Assist post docs, grad students and research specialists while collecting phenotypic data and tissue samples from the greenhouses and cotton fields
• Perform lab‑based analyses including DNA isolation

Minimum Experience/

Education:

Combination of training and experience required to perform the duties.

Department

Required Skills:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively both independently and in a collaborative research environment
• Must be computer literate with experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic data entry tools

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training,

Education:

• BS in Plant Sciences, Agriculture, Biology or related field
• Background in plant care, with experience in general biology and/or agriculture

Required License or Certification: Valid driver’s license (valid NC Driver’s License required).

Anticipated Hiring Range: $16‑$18/hr
