Job Description
Part‑time Archaeological Technician role support ongoing and future archaeological projects across the Southeast and may work on projects nationwide. The position is part‑time, “as needed”, and requires flexibility to travel and to work various schedules depending on client needs.
EssentialRoles and Responsibilities
- Excavate standard archaeological shovel tests and test units.
- Capable of excavating shovel tests and/or test units in accordance with state standards.
- Identify cultural material and cultural features during excavation or survey.
- Maintain quality field notes / field forms, artifact bag labels, photographs, and site documentation.
- Navigate using a compass and a handheld GPS unit.
- Follow all safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects.
- Perform quality control on field documents daily.
- At least six months professional archaeological experience in the eastern United States.
- Phase I, II, and/or III level experience.
- Experience working in Cultural Resource Management.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
- Ability to travel for extended periods of time.
- Familiarity or knowledge of handheld GPS systems.
- Ability to adequately document field work on standard field forms.
- Flexibility to work various schedules depending on client needs.
- Ability to work and communicate with others in various environmental settings.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely using both written and verbal skills.
- Ability to multi‑task within flexible/fluid schedules and project needs.
- Ability to perform manual labor or physically demanding tasks such as lifting and walking on uneven surfaces carrying at least 35 lbs. of equipment, and ability to work in extreme (hot/cold) weather conditions.
- Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Ability to pass drug screening.
- Possession of a U.S. driver’s license, with an acceptable violation history.
