Senior Software Engineer, Backend; Loans Platform

Overview

Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Loans Platform)  are looking for a Senior Software Engineer for the Loans Platform team, responsible for Affirm’s core loans products. You will guide the team to scale the product, add new features, and work cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to support growth.

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems, and support delivery.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics during the product development lifecycle, articulating technical constraints and balancing risks and trade-offs.
• Identify and advocate for project, process, technology, or business issues and lead efforts to resolve them.
• Support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and contributing to on-call efforts.
• Foster a culture of quality and ownership by establishing and promoting code review and design standards beyond your team through writing and tech talks.
• Develop talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance and leading by example.

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience defining a technical plan for delivering a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple, and extensible design; high-quality, understandable code.
• Ability to make significant changes in a large codebase and develop tools and practices to do so safely.
• Ownership mindset with proactive feedback from peers, managers, and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills supporting collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Equivalents: practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include equity rewards, stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and dependents).

USA base pay ranges:
California, Washington, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut: $190,000 - $240,000 per year. All other U.S. states: $169,000 - $219,000 per year.

Pay Grade - N;
Equity Grade - 8.
