Project Development Manager (Java / Applications Engineering) | Raleigh, NC

Lead the teams that build mission-critical enterprise software.

We're hiring a hands-on technology leader who is just as comfortable in a code review as in a boardroom. If you've grown from developer to team lead and want to own delivery of complex, high-impact enterprise systems, this role is for you.

About the Role

As Project Development Manager, you'll guide projects from the first business requirement through post-implementation support. You'll lead engineering teams, manage multiple projects at once, and partner closely with Product Managers, Business Analysts, and stakeholders to make sure what we build succeeds in the real world.

What You'll Do

• Plan (30%): Gather requirements, build business cases and high-level estimates, create project plans and budgets, and own release planning
• Execute and lead (50%): Balance resources and budgets across multiple projects, lead teams through design, development, integration, and support, and resolve risks and issues before they become problems
• Stay technical: Spend 10-15% of your time coding so you stay close to the tech stack and the products
• Develop your people: Run regular 1:1s, hire new talent, deliver evaluations, and coach your team to be more "T-shaped"
• Communicate (20%): Keep senior leadership and stakeholders informed, and manage expectations with confidence

What You Bring

• 7+ years of software development experience, including 2+ years in a team lead or development management role
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an equivalent field (preferred)
• Strong Java background and knowledge of multi-tier architecture, high availability, and disaster recovery
• Experience with large, complex, mission-critical enterprise applications
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills; consulting or client-facing experience is a big plus
• Solid grasp of the full development life cycle, business analysis techniques, and Agile/Scrum
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project

Nice to Have

• AWS or other cloud experience
• Experience working with offshore technical teams
• PMP certification (to be earned within your first 12 months) and Agile certification (PMI or Scrum Alliance)
• Experience in software estimation, budgeting, and resource allocation

Location

Onsite in Cary, NC, Monday through Thursday, with flexibility needed for additional days as business needs require.
