Job DescriptionPosition
Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the building principal, to work with students who are identified with language disabilities, articulation deficits, disfluent speech, and voice disorders. Speech Language Pathologists provide direct instruction to eligible students in the areas of speech and language development, and collaborate with teachers, parents, and other staff members as part of the IEP process.
- Identifies and serves speech/language impaired students within the school system.
- Screens school system pupils to identify speech/language-impaired individuals.
- Provides thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments.
- Plans and implements remedial procedures to modify deficient communication skills.
- Directs therapy sessions including speech/language articulation, voice, and fluency therapy.
- Communicates and collaborates with colleagues and monitors student progress.
- Plans instructional programs and prepares materials.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior for an orderly and productive learning environment.
- Conducts and participates in child study, eligibility, screening, and staff meetings and conferences.
- Serves as a resource to school staff in developing a balanced program for oral communications and speech improvement.
- Develops and uses each student’s Individualized Educational Plan with each student in the caseload.
- Prepares speech and language evaluation reports.
- Prepares and maintains related records and files.
- Assists in proper referrals of students to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
- Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
- Maintains a regular and predictable attendance history while employed by the district.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
- Uses standard school and office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephones.
- Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of speech and language diagnosis and therapy.
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of casework methods and procedures.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications, as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self‑evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to conduct interviews, assessments, and diagnosis effectively and analyze needs and problems objectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
- Works in standard school building environment.

- Certification:
Nebraska teaching certificate with an endorsement in speech language pathology. - Education:
Bachelors degree in education from an accredited college or university;
Masters degree in speech language pathology from an accredited college or university. - Experience:
Successful prior experience as a speech language pathologist (preferred).
