Job SummaryThe Design Engineer II works within the Food & Beverage Unit, analyzing customer requirements and designing fabricated components and systems with a focus on manufacturability, safety, cost, and performance. The role collaborates with operations, sourcing, quality, and project management to deliver high-quality, compliant equipment.
Primary ObjectiveProvide design calculations, prototypes, and technical support, balancing safety, cost, manufacturability, and regulatory compliance while researching advanced technologies. Input into make‑vs‑buy decisions and assist with quality/inspection plans.
Major Areas Of Accountability- Creates designs, specifications, models, bills of material, and manufacturing drawings.
- Coordinates with production to ensure manufacturability, tolerance stack‑up, and surface finish.
- Maintains product safety, compliance, and cost effectiveness.
- Builds or supervises prototype construction for testing and approval.
- Reviews customer models and drawings for missing or incorrect information.
- Updates or creates solid models based on customer requirements.
- Modifies existing designs to improve performance or integrate new technology.
- Performs engineering calculations for component sizing and process equipment.
- Conducts customer site visits for installation and support when required.
- Engages customers during quotation to clarify requirements.
- Works with QA to define inspection plans.
- Collaborates with Project Manager on production planning and ERP entries.
- Communicates with production supervisors to advance design and material flow.
- Keeps abreast of manufacturing technology research and development.
- Maintains professionalism and a team approach across the department.
- Ensures a favorable company image and honest customer relationships.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- BS degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Machine Design, Process Design, or related field with 5+ years experience in manufacturing/fabrication.
- AAS degree in relevant field such as Mechanical Design with 10+ years experience.
- Solid experience in product design and manufacturing, especially Design For Manufacturing (DFM).
- 3D CAD experience (preferably Solid Works).
- Knowledge of GD&T principles strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of ASME, FEA calculations preferred.
- Experience with FMEA, DVP&R, Quality Control, and site installation a plus.
- Project development and leadership skills essential.
- Experience with customer interaction under time constraints a definite plus.
- Software/controls engineering and system design principles experience a plus.
- Reviewing and analyzing prototypes and product modifications experience preferred.
- Lift/Carry – 0‑10 lb. occasionally, 11‑50 lb. occasionally, 51‑100 lb. never.
- Push/Pull – 0‑25 lb. occasionally, 26‑75 lb. occasionally, 76‑100 lb. never.
- Bend – 0‑33% of shift;
Twist/Turn – 0‑33% of shift;
Kneel/Squat – none;
Sit – 67‑100% of shift;
Stand/Walk – 0‑33% of shift;
Overhead Reaching – 0‑33% of shift;
Ladder/Stair – 0‑33% of shift.

Salary$77,350 to $113,500 annually.
