Position: 400kv SAP

Astute's Power Team are partnering with a leading asset management company in the renewable energy sector. We are recruiting two 400kV Senior Authorised Person (SAP) roles for onshore wind projects in Montrose, Scotland, and Ramsgate, South of England.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and carry out day‑to‑day SAP duties across 400kV onshore wind projects, ensuring all HV activities are completed safely and in line with site electrical safety rules.
  • Take responsibility for the safe operation, control and coordination of HV electrical systems, including substations, transformers, switch gear, protection systems, cables and associated balance‑of‑plant equipment.
  • Plan, prepare, review and execute HV switching schedules and programmes, ensuring all switching activities are completed safely and in accordance with operational requirements.
  • Manage the application and removal of safety precautions (isolations, earthing, proving dead), ensuring electrical systems are made safe prior to work commencing.
  • Issue, manage, suspend and cancel safety documents (Permits‑to‑Work, Sanctions‑for‑Test, Limitations‑of‑Access) in accordance with project electrical safety rules.
  • Review and approve RAMS, switching schedules, isolation plans and supporting documentation for HV activities, ensuring work can be carried out safely and without impacting wider site operations.
  • Coordinate daily HV activities across the wind farm, working closely with site management, engineers, technicians, contractors and the wider operations team to manage priorities and ensure safe delivery of planned works.
  • Manage HV access requirements and coordinate contractors and authorised personnel carrying out works on or around the 400kV electrical systems.
  • Carry out site inspections, safety audits and operational checks to ensure HV equipment, substations and associated electrical infrastructure remain compliant with project procedures and electrical safety rules.
  • Respond to HV faults, trips and electrical system issues, leading fault‑finding activities, coordinating investigations and ensuring electrical systems are safely restored to service.
  • Coordinate planned and unplanned outages, ensuring switching activities, isolations, resources and contractor requirements are effectively managed to minimise disruption to site operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of all HV operational activities, including switching schedules, safety documents, isolation records, operational logs, test documentation and electrical system status.
  • Liaise with the DNO, transmission network operator, control engineers and other external stakeholders regarding switching activities, outages, system access and operational requirements.
  • Support the commissioning, energisation and handover of new or modified HV electrical systems, ensuring all required documentation, testing and safety requirements are completed prior to energisation.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to authorised persons, electrical technicians, contractors and site personnel, ensuring all HV activities are completed safely and in accordance with required electrical safety procedures.
  • Provide regular updates to the site manager and wider project team regarding HV system status, planned works, outages, operational risks and any issues that could impact the safe operation or availability of the wind farm.
Salary & Benefits

£120,000 to £130,000 per annum, plus a competitive benefits package: 7.5% pension contribution, car allowance of £5,000, and private medical insurance.
