We are seeking a Junior-Level Staff Geologist/Hydrogeologist to join our dynamic team in Rancho Cordova, CA. Under supervision of senior staff, expand your technical expertise on a variety of water resources planning and hydrogeologic investigations assignments to provide ongoing office and field work support for our clients throughout California and the western United States. This position has a field component that may require periodic travel, including some weekend and overnight travel, sometimes on short notice.
Duration of field work assignments and associated travel can range from days to several months.
- Under the supervision of senior staff, candidates will provide technical and administrative support for office- and field-based hydrogeology and water resource engineering projects throughout the country, with a geographic emphasis in the West.
- Perform office and geologic field activities, which may include:
- logging rock core or soil borings,
- overseeing test borings, production and monitoring well installations,
- groundwater monitoring or sampling,
- field or construction observation and documentation, and
- other as-needed activities.
- Candidates will be responsible for providing technical oversight to subcontractors, including evaluation of field activities, and assisting in the development of investigation workplans.
- In addition, candidates can expect to perform data management and analysis, prepare reports and assist in preparation of and delivery of technical presentations with clients and/or regulators.
- Perform review, analysis, and interpretation of aerial photographs, LiDAR, prepare data and files for use in numerical groundwater modeling, compile and assistance in the interpretation and documentation of water quality data, trends and potential for low temperature geochemical transformations
- Perform literature review, compilation and analysis of existing data and information.
- Assist in preparation of technical reports and documents, including local Government and County permit applications as needed to perform field work.
- Assist in preparation of geologic maps, figures, and cross-sections.
- Provide technical oversight of subcontractors, including review/approval of invoices and work proposals.
- Assist in preparation of technical scopes of work for proposals and projects, project budgets, requests for proposals for contractors, and project-specific health and safety plans.
- Performs other related work as assigned.
- B.S. in Geology, Hydrogeology, Geological Engineering, Earth Science, or closely related field;
Graduate degree(s) are a plus, or equivalent experience. - Experience and course work in hydrogeology, groundwater modeling, and water resource planning.
- Strong grasp of basic geologic principles and California geology.
- G.I.T. is desirable; P.G., or ability to obtain such credential is a plus.
- 5 – 10 years of previous professional experience in geological/geotechnical consulting.
- Excellent computer skills with MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Excellent communication and technical reporting writing skills.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel for short-term (1 to 5 days) and long-term (weeks to months) assignments as needed.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Ability to hike mountainous terrain and lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within project team.
- Proficiency with geographic information systems (GIS) and/ or CAD software for geological analyses.
- Proficiency with Bluebeam, Adobe, and other computer software applications.
- Familiarity with standard groundwater flow and water quality modeling software is a plus.
- Strong desire to help develop and stay current with mapping and analytical technology.
- Active in professional organizations and conferences, including delivering presentations and writing technical papers.
- Excellent field observation and data collection/documentation skills.
