Job Description

The Area Director of Sales is responsible for planning and managing the overall sales and marketing for a collection of 2-10 full service, premium select and/or independent branded hotels. This role aims to achieve optimal occupancy and ADR growth to maximize total revenue while meeting/exceeding hotel profit objectives for the entire collection. Responsibilities include overseeing operations of the hotel sales department—direct sales, follow‑up, sales administration, hiring, training, managing and coaching staff.

Additional duties involve sales and marketing budgeting, forecasting, advertising, marketing, and business plans, all managed within approved budgets.

Management-level associates are expected to work as much of each workday as necessary to complete their job responsibilities; overtime applies for OEM associates and is calculated accordingly.

Qualifications
  • At least 4 years of progressive hotel sales experience preferred; or a 4‑year college degree and at least 2 years of related experience; or a 2‑year college degree and at least 4 years of related experience.
  • Prior Director of Sales or National Sales experience selling major downtown markets is required.
  • Valid driver’s license in the applicable state.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills for negotiating, influencing, and selling to managerial personnel, guests, and corporate clients.
  • Proficient in professional selling skills: opening, probing, supporting, closing.
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic vision for sales deployment.
  • Proficiency with general computer knowledge, especially Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong organization and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with and manage a diverse team and customers while solving complex problems.
  • Advanced knowledge of sales/marketing/hospitality principles and practices.
  • Ability to perform well under stress and maintain composure.
  • Capability to understand financial information, data, and basic arithmetic functions.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all group, transient, and catering sales solicitations and bookings to maximize overall revenue.
  • Coordinate sales automation efforts, ensuring a regional sales database is developed and managed for various email campaigns and customer solicitation efforts.
  • Develop, recommend, implement, and manage the division’s annual budget and the advertising, public relations, marketing, and sales plans and programs for the hotel to maximize rate, occupancy, and food & beverage opportunities, ensuring revenue and profit goals are met/exceeded.
  • Initiate and develop sales trips to key feeder markets/cities, identifying accounts that directly benefit revenue targets at all hotels in the cluster, and work with property‑based Directors of Sales to coordinate on‑property direct sales efforts.
  • Proactively conduct outside sales calls, tours, and client entertainment.
  • Understand contract content and negotiate terms.
  • Develop and maintain market awareness to predict revenue opportunities and set proactive strategies.
  • Monitor production of top accounts and evaluate trends within your market.
  • Conduct on‑property visits to hotels within the assigned collection to assess sales leadership, culture, and adherence to Aimbridge Hospitality’s regulations, standards, and metrics.
  • Comply with attainment of individual and team goals, as well as budgeted metrics.
  • Train all hotel staff on recognizing and capitalizing on sales opportunities to increase occupancy and revenue.
  • Manage human resources in the division—hire, train, develop, empower, coach, counsel, conduct performance and salary reviews, resolve problems, discipline, and terminate employees as appropriate.
  • Develop a full working knowledge of hotel operations and policies, including Sales, Food & Beverage, Front Office, and Reservations.
  • Maintain strong visibility in local community and industry organizations.
