Job Summary

Reporting to the CFO/Controller, the Technical Accounting and Controls Accounting Manager will focus on technical accounting research and documentation under U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting principles, support the implementation of internal control frameworks aligned with industry best practices (including MAR), and assist in the general ledger (GL) system implementation or other system implementations from an accounting perspective.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research and interpret complex accounting issues under GAAP and statutory accounting standards.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical accounting memos to support accounting positions and policy decisions.
  • Collaborate with compliance and internal audit teams to implement and maintain internal control frameworks, including those aligned with Model Audit Rule (MAR) requirements.
  • Provide accounting leadership and support during the GL system implementation, including requirements gathering, testing, and post-implementation review.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial reporting.
  • Monitor changes in accounting standards and regulatory guidance and assess their impact on the organization.
  • Support external audits and regulatory examinations by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries.
  • Train and mentor accounting staff on technical topics and control procedures.
  • Maintain and enhance GAAP-compliant accounting procedures.
  • Generate ad hoc reports and analysis for management.
  • Support regulatory filings and compliance initiatives.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to accounting procedures.
  • Safeguard confidential financial information.
  • Fulfill organizational goals through timely and accurate accounting deliverables.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, Department of Insurance standards, and internal policies.
  • Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Skill And Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including technical accounting, including 3 years of Big 4 accounting firm experience.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, statutory accounting, and internal control frameworks (e.g., MAR).
  • Experience with GL system implementations (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Workday) is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
  • Commitment to company policies and a paperless work environment.
