Overview

We are seeking a skilled Trial Attorney with extensive experience and legal expertise in personal auto insurance defense. This role will provide legal representation to Aspire General Insurance’s policyholders in litigated matters, specifically including defense of claims related to personal injury and property damage. The role involves handling all aspects of litigation, from case inception through trial and appeal while ensuring compliance with corporate, legal, and ethical standards.

This position will report to the Managing Trial Attorney.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent the company’s insured clients in litigation, including pre-trial motions, discovery, depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
  • Develop and execute legal strategies in cooperation with our claims partners to achieve favorable case outcomes while representing the company’s insureds’ best interests.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, and briefs.
  • Provide legal advice and guidance to our claims partners and other internal stakeholders on litigated and legal matters.
  • Research applicable laws and findings, develop appropriate legal strategies for all stages of litigation, and communicate them to claims representatives and insured clients.
  • Evaluate and manage a caseload of lawsuits, including risk assessments and cost analysis.
  • Negotiate settlements where appropriate while balancing cost‑effective resolution strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, ethical, and regulatory standards in all case handling.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of all case proceedings.
  • Establish and maintain good relationships with claims representatives and insured clients, and occasionally participate in conducting training sessions for our claims partners.
  • Assist in providing guidance and direction to paralegals, legal assistants, and/or law clerks.
  • Assist the company in attending legal proceedings against the company including small claims matters, court hearings, arbitrations, and court proceedings.
  • Provide appropriate and timely status reports to the claims department regarding litigation status and potential exposure analysis.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Membership in the California State Bar Association with a clean disciplinary record.
  • Minimum of 10‑15 years of successful experience conducting discovery, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and trials, preferably in insurance defense.
  • Strong knowledge of California insurance law, civil litigation procedures, and trial advocacy.
  • Ability to manage a high‑volume caseload effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and alongside one or more associate level partners.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Membership in the California State Bar Association with a clean disciplinary record.
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful experience conducting discovery, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and trials, preferably in insurance defense.
  • Strong knowledge of California insurance law, civil litigation procedures, and trial advocacy.
  • Ability to manage a high‑volume caseload effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and alongside one or more associate level partners.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous and successful trial experience.
  • Familiarity with case management and electronic filing software.
Working Conditions
  • This position is fully remote.

  • This work environment is fast‑paced, and accuracy is essential to successful task completion.
