American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pre-Op/PACU position requiring combined pre-op and PACU experience and proficiency with Epic.

• Combined Pre-Op and PACU unit within Surgical Services
• 12-hour day shifts, 3x12 schedule with variable start times (0500 in Pre-Op, 0800/0900/1000 in PACU on weekdays)
• Weekend shifts available at 0600 and 0800 starts
• Required to take 2-3 call shifts per month with a 30-60 minute call back requirement
• Night shift option available (Mon-Thurs , limited positions)
• Average daily census of 35-50 patients across 12 rooms and 24 beds
• Cares for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients with limited pediatric cases
• Majority of cases are scheduled as add-ons
• Supported by surgical techs
• Float required to Pre-Op, Post-Op, and occasionally outpatient ortho surgery or same day surgery center within Surgical Services
• Surgical services include Bariatrics, Cardio Thoracic, General, GYN, GYN-Onc, Neuro, Spine, Ortho, Plastics, Podiatry, Urology, Vascular, and Endovascular
• May cover IRL, EP, Cath, Plum, and CT/MRI patients during off hours or when recovery area is full
• Busy robotic surgery program (6 robots) and high-volume ortho total joint program
• Unit staffed 24/7
• Uses Omnicell medication system
• Epic charting experience preferred but not required

• Active CA RN license required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS
• Minimum 2 years experience in ER, ICU, or PACU required
• Must have both Pre-Op and PACU experience
• Critical care experience required
• Phase I PACU experience required
• Skilled in dysrhythmia recognition/management, starting IVs, airway assessment, obtaining operative/procedural consent, and straight urinary catheterization (male and female)
• Pain assessment and management skills required
• Experience with a wide range of surgical specialties preferred (Bariatrics, Cardiac, Neuro/Spine, Ortho, Plastics, Robotics, Vascular, Urology, and more)
• Experience with various medications (antiarrhythmics, anticoagulants, antihypertensives, vasopressors, narcotics/analgesics, reversal agents) preferred
• Experience with multiple anesthesia types (general, local, MAC, nerve blocks, spinal) preferred
• Level I and Level II Trauma Center experience preferred
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Previous charge experience preferred
• Travel RN experience required

• Primarily assigned to either Pre-Op or PACU based on scheduling needs, with travelers prioritized for floating
• Care for all surgical patients, with ICU/open heart/neurosurgery patients typically recovering in ICU unless ICU is at capacity
• Required to take call unless assigned to a night or weekend shift as a regular schedule
• Royal blue scrubs provided
• Maximum of 2 schedule requests off accepted per contract
• No first-time travelers considered for this position
• Former facility employees must have been separated for 2+ years to be eligible to return as a traveler
• Only one contract extension allowed, after which time off equal to the combined original and extension contract length is required before returning to this facility as a traveler
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
