Grinder - 2nd Shift

Performs precision grinding operations on valves components using horizontal and vertical manual grinders by performing the following duties.

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

• Set up and operate a variety of production grinding machines, such as, O.D. Grinder, I.D. Grinder, Universal Grinder, Vertical Grinder, Blanchard Grinder.
• Perform general grinding operations to specified tolerances and finishes on component parts and products of any material.
• Select, dress and shape grinding wheels to desired contour.
• Use a variety of grinding wheels, measuring instruments and fixturing devices.
• Select feeds and speeds.
• Operate jib crane.
• Work from blue prints, sketches, and process sheets, written and verbal instruction.
• Detect and report discrepant operations and defective materials.
• Keep work area, machinery, and equipment clean and orderly.
• Maintain necessary records.
• Follow shop order instructions.
• Perform TPMs.
• Cross train in other processes and equipment.

• Must use various types of inspection equipment, such as, micrometers, calipers, gages, scales, dial indicators, protractor, and verniers.
• Must have knowledge of surface finishes.
• Must have the ability to set up own machine using fixtures and tooling.
• Must have knowledge of different types of grinding wheels and how they are best used on various types of materials.
• Must be able to dress and shape grinding wheels to contour needed.

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Certified Quality Inspector Certificate is desirable; or
• 2-4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

$28 - $32 an hour, based on experience
