General Description

As a member of the teaching team, the teacher assistant helps ensure that each child’s developmental needs are met. The Teacher Assistant will substitute for Preschool Center Staff and provide classroom support and assistance as needed. This position will be a Travel Assistant Teacher and travel between our Weymouth, Randolph and Quincy Preschools. Reliable transportation is a must. This full-time position will be primarily covering vacations, time off and leaves of absences in our preschool and early childhood centers.

Responsibilities

  • Be available to work a flexible full-time schedule, sometimes with location changes, on very short notice, to meet staffing requirements of the Center.
  • Participate in implementing curriculum and classroom activities.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining classroom environment, equipment, and materials.
  • Monitor children’s activities individually and in groups.
  • Confer with other center staff regarding educational and social progress.
  • Attend staff, team, and curriculum meetings, training and supervision as required.
  • Help organize and attend Center parent meetings and other Center events.
  • Refer concerns expressed by parents to appropriate teacher and share observations regarding parent-child interactions.
  • Prepare breakfast and snacks.
  • All other assigned duties.
  • All South Shore Stars employees should be able to lift at least 40 lbs and work in a non-sedentary environment.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to understand the developmental needs of children.
  • Some experience working with young children.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule and fill in wherever needed.
  • Must be able to travel to all early childhood program locations.
  • Coursework in early childhood education desirable.
  • Warm and nurturing personality.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
