The Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented licensed Manitoba Land Surveyor (MLS) to join the Rockport Commercial team. In this position you will take full ownership of the surveying department, acting as the primary lead for all legal and field-related tasks. You will work closely alongside our construction crews and project managers to ensure every project is built accurately and remains fully compliant with the Manitoba Land Surveyors Act.
Key Responsibilities- Department Leadership: Act as the sole authority on all surveying matters, setting benchmarks, establishing control points, and maintaining the integrity of our survey data across multiple active sites.
- Legal & Boundary Accountability: Take professional responsibility for legal boundary surveys, subdivision plans, and easements under the Real Property Act.
- Construction Support: Work directly on-site with construction teams to provide real-time layout support, topographic surveys, and volumetric quantity audits.
- Official Certification: Prepare, sign, and seal all necessary legal survey plans, Zoning Memorandums, and staking certificates required for municipal permits and project closeouts.
- Technical Workflow: Convert project drawings into rover/machine control files (Trimble) and manage the calibration and maintenance of all surveying hardware.
- Collaboration: Serve as the critical bridge between the field construction team and the office-based engineering and development divisions.
- Professional Status: Must be a licensed member in good standing with the Association of Manitoba Land Surveyors (AMLS).
- Leadership Ability: Proven experience as a self-starter capable of managing the full scope of surveying needs for complex civil and building projects without external oversight.
- Technical Proficiency: Expert knowledge of Trimble GPS/Machine Control, Trimble Business Centre, and Civil 3D.
- Manitoba Standards: Strong understanding of local survey regulations and the Land Titles Office submission process.
- Clear Communication: Ability to explain technical information clearly and provide practical guidance to site superintendents, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
