Branch Manager - Rapid City YMCA

Come join the Rapid City YMCA in the heart of the Black Hills of South Dakota as our new Branch Manager!

Job Description

At the YMCA of Rapid City, we create a space where people of all ages and backgrounds grow stronger in spirit, mind, and body. For over 75 years, we've been deeply woven into the fabric of this community nestled in the beautiful Black Hills, offering life-changing programs and building relationships that last. Now, we’re looking for a Branch Manager who is ready to lead with purpose and continue that legacy.

This position offers a unique opportunity to oversee one of the region's most important community assets. Our branch serves a diverse and growing membership base, and we partner with schools, local businesses, community leaders, and civic organizations throughout the Black Hills. As Branch Manager, you will guide the financial development and operational success of the branch by leading membership and program growth, annual fundraising initiatives, and key special events.

You will develop and manage the annual operating budget, monitor financial performance, and ensure that our branch remains healthy, sustainable, and aligned with long-term strategic goals. You will serve as a visible ambassador of the YMCA in the community, building strong relationships with local businesses, schools, civic organizations, and government partners that enhance our impact and help us better serve families and individuals across our service area.

We’re looking for someone who understands that the Y is more than just a gym. You will be responsible for managing staff teams across departments like aquatics, youth programs, membership, wellness, and facilities, all while making sure our operations run smoothly, safely, and sustainably. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on building relationships, developing strong teams, and ensuring that the Y delivers exceptional member and community experiences every day.

We require at least five years of leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit, YMCA, or mission-focused environment. Strong financial management skills are essential, as are the ability to lead people, think strategically, and communicate clearly. A degree in human services, business, or recreation is helpful, but what matters most is your ability to live out our values and inspire others to do the same.

If you’re short a degree, we’ll weigh extensive nonprofit management experience against the requirements.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, social services, recreation/hospitality, management, business or equivalent experience.
  • Five or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  • Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of branch budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community, government, and business stakeholders.
Essential Functions
  • Direct the financial development activities of the branch including membership goals, programming, annual campaigns, and special events.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage the branch operating budget, ensuring financial goals are met or exceeded.
  • Guide strategic planning and develop annual operational plans to support long-term growth and mission alignment.
  • Monitor income and expenses to maintain financial health and sustainability.
  • Represent and promote the YMCA within the local community by building and maintaining strong relationships with community organizations, businesses, agencies, and government entities.
  • Ensure that the entire operation complies with YMCA risk management policies, ensuring the safety of participants, volunteers, and staff.
  • Coordinate events and activities with community partners to meet shared goals and enhance visibility.
  • Oversee hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of staff to ensure high performance and…
