Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 3 NICU position requiring a SD or compact license and expertise in neonatal critical care.
Responsibilities- Position is in a Level 3 NICU with 28 beds and an average census of 13-16 patients
- Provides care to neonates of all gestational ages, including cases such as low birth weight, feeders/growers, high frequency ventilation, nitric oxide, and total body cooling
- RN patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:4, depending on acuity
- 12‑hour variable shifts are required, with options for 36 or 48‑hour contracts
- Care is provided using EPIC EMR, with Alaris pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing systems
- Floating may be required to PICU, Pediatrics, Postpartum, Newborn Nursery, or for adult constant observation overflow
- Weekend rotations are not required, but travelers may work mostly weekends
- On‑call is required only for low census situations
- Holiday work is expected for 2 out of 4 major holidays
- Responsibilities include advanced neonatal care and collaboration on delivery attendance
- Unit support includes a charge nurse, CNA, respiratory therapy, 24/7 neonatologists, NNP coverage, a transport team, and lactation consultants
- General traveler orientation and one day/one night of unit orientation provided
- Scrub color is navy
- Free parking is available
- Time off must be pre‑approved by management
- First‑time travelers are accepted with 2+ years NICU experience
- Active SD or compact RN license required
- Minimum of 1.5 years recent NICU experience required (2+ years of experience required for first‑time travelers)
- Current certifications: BLS, NRP, and PALS required; STABLE preferred
- Completion of an approved nursing education program
- Experience with vent management, IV starts, chest tubes, and IV medication titration required
- EPIC charting experience preferred, approval required if no prior EPIC experience
- Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility
- Previous permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler
